UPSC Test Series

If you have written the examination before, you probably do not need more classes

You have covered the syllabus. You have the standard books, and you have read most of them twice. You know what the Second Administrative Reforms Commission said and you can name the committees. And yet the mark sheet came back and it was not enough.

Another foundation course will not fix that, and it will cost you a year. What went wrong is almost never that you did not know the material. It is one of four things: you did not convert what you knew into marks inside the time allowed; you attempted the wrong number of questions in the Prelims and the negative marking ate the difference; you wrote answers that were correct but did not answer the question that was asked; or nobody ever read your script and told you, in writing, what you were doing wrong.

A test series exists to find out which of those four it is, and then to fix it while there is still time. That is a different product from a course, and it is what this page is about.

What we run

UPSC Prelims Test Series → Sectional tests across the General Studies syllabus, full-length papers under examination conditions, and CSAT papers. Machine-marked with per-question analysis, and built backwards from the Prelims date so that your last simulation sits close to the real thing rather than three months before it.

UPSC Mains Test Series → Full-length General Studies and Essay papers, written in three hours, evaluated by a named human being and returned with the script marked up question by question. Not a score out of 250 and a tick.

UPSC Answer Writing Programme → Question-level practice on a weekly cadence with evaluated answers, for aspirants who need to build the habit and the speed before they can sit a full paper usefully. This is the entry point if you have never had an answer marked by anyone.

All three are sold separately from our classroom programmes. You do not have to enrol in a course to buy a test series, and we will not try to convert you into one.

Why a test series and not another course

A classroom course is priced and structured for someone who does not yet know the syllabus. If you already do, most of what you are paying for is repetition of material you have read, delivered at the pace of the slowest person in the room.

The three things you cannot get from self-study, and which a test series is the only sensible way to buy, are these.

A deadline you did not set yourself. Everybody intends to write a full-length paper this Sunday. A published schedule with a fixed date, a fixed start time and a script that has to be uploaded by a deadline is the difference between intending and doing.

An examination-conditions rehearsal. The Prelims General Studies paper is 100 questions in 120 minutes. Each Mains paper is 250 marks in 180 minutes. Sitting that at your desk with your phone face-down is not the same exercise as sitting it against a clock you cannot pause, and the gap between the two is where a great many well-prepared candidates lose the examination.

Somebody else's eyes on your script. You cannot mark your own answer. You know what you meant, so you read what you meant rather than what you wrote. An evaluator does not have that advantage, and neither does the examiner in the Mains.

If what you actually need is teaching rather than testing, say so and we will tell you. Our UPSC Foundation Course → and UPSC Crash Course → are on the courses pages with their prices on them.

How to tell a good UPSC test series from a bad one

Six questions. Ask them of us and ask them of everyone else you are considering. Any provider who cannot answer all six in writing, before you pay, is asking you to buy something they are not willing to describe.

  1. Is the full schedule published, with dates? Not "tests every Sunday". Actual dates, actual portions, from the first test to the last, before you pay. A provider who has not written the schedule down has not planned it, and the tests will drift.
  2. Who evaluates the scripts, and what have they done? A name, a qualification, and their own record in this examination. "Experienced faculty" is not an answer. This matters more than any other single factor, because in a Mains test series the evaluation is the product and the question paper is the packaging.
  3. In how many days does a marked script come back? A number, committed to in writing. An answer written on the 10th and returned on the 5th of the following month teaches you nothing, because you no longer remember what you were thinking when you wrote it. Fourteen days is too long. Ask what happens if they miss it.
  4. Can you see a marked script before you pay? Ask for a redacted sample: a real student's answer, with the evaluator's actual comments on it, name removed. If the feedback turns out to be "good attempt, add examples", you have learned something valuable for the price of an email.
  5. What analysis do you get beyond a score? A mark out of 200 tells you nothing you can act on. Your accuracy on the questions you chose to attempt, your accuracy on the ones you guessed, how you did against the cohort at each difficulty level, and where your time went: those tell you what to change next week.
  6. What exactly does the fee cover, and can you buy less than the whole thing? Whether discussion sessions are included, whether model answers are provided, whether one-to-one review is extra, and whether you can buy the Prelims tests without the Mains tests. Bundling is how providers hide a thin product inside a thick one.

Ask us all six before you pay.

FAQs

What is a UPSC test series?

A structured set of practice examinations written to a published schedule under time conditions, marked and returned to you with feedback. For the Prelims it is objective papers with per-question analysis. For the Mains it is written papers evaluated by a person who marks your script and tells you what to change.

Do I need a test series if I am already enrolled in a coaching course?

Usually yes, and often not from the same provider. A course teaches the syllabus; a test series measures whether you can convert it into marks in the time allowed. Those are different things, and a candidate who has done only one of them is half-prepared.

Can I buy the test series without joining a course at Samkalp?

Yes. All three test-series products are sold separately from the UPSC Foundation Course → and the UPSC Crash Course →. You do not need to be a Samkalp student to write our tests.

Is the test series online or at the Coimbatore centre?

It is delivered online so that you can write from anywhere in Tamil Nadu.

How much does the Samkalp Coimbatore test series cost?

Each of the three programmes is priced separately, and you can buy one without the others. Call +91 95976 93209 or book a free counselling session → and we will confirm the fee for the programme that suits you before you pay anything.

When does the next test series start?

Each series is timed backwards from the UPSC Annual Calendar 2027, which places the Prelims on 23 May 2027 and the Mains from 20 August 2027. See the schedule for the Prelims Test Series → and the Mains Test Series →, or call us for the next start date.

I have attempted the examination twice and cleared Prelims once. Where should I start?

With the Mains Test Series → if your problem is converting knowledge into written marks, and with the Answer Writing Programme → if you have never had an answer evaluated. Send us one answer and we will tell you which.
