UPSC Prelims Coaching

The Preliminary Examination is a filter, not an achievement. It is objective, it is scored on two papers, and one of those papers only has to be passed. What it demands is coverage of an unreasonably wide syllabus and the discipline to answer 100 questions under a clock with negative marking. Very little of that is taught. Most of it is practised.

That is why prelims preparation at Samkalp is not sold as a separate course. It is a component of two programmes, and which one you need depends entirely on where you are starting from.

What prelims teaching at Samkalp consists of

General Studies Paper I, taught across the full subject range: Indian polity and governance, modern and medieval Indian history, art and culture, geography, economy, environment and ecology, general science, and current events of national and international significance.

CSAT, Paper II, taught as a qualifying paper that is not optional. It is covered on its own page, honestly, including what happens to candidates who take it lightly. Read about CSAT preparation →

Timed practice from early in the course rather than at the end. Candidates lose Prelims to the clock and to negative marking far more often than to gaps in knowledge. Practice under time is not revision, it is a separate skill.

Current affairs, taught against the syllabus rather than the newspaper. A daily news habit without a filter produces a large amount of unusable material.

The honest position

If you have already covered the syllabus twice and are missing the cut-off by a small margin, more classes are the wrong purchase. What you need is a diagnosis of where the marks are actually going, which is a test series and an analysis conversation, not a lecture course. Our counsellors are instructed to tell you that.

FAQs

Both. Classes are bilingual: core concepts and study material are in English, with explanations, doubt-clearing and discussion supported in Tamil wherever it helps understanding.

The Crash Course runs live online on weekdays. The Foundation Course runs on Sundays and public holidays with live online attendance available. See both programmes.
