Editorial Policy

Last updated: 21 September 2026.

Almost everything written about the Civil Services Examination online is produced by coaching institutes, and almost none of it tells you who wrote it, what it was written from, or when it was last checked. That is a problem for you, because examination rules change every year and stale guidance is indistinguishable from current guidance until you act on it.

This page sets out how we produce content and how you can check us. It is not a statement of intent. Each commitment below is either already operating or is marked as not yet operating.

1. Who writes it

Every substantive page on this site carries the name of the person who wrote it, their role and their relevant background. Where a page is analysis rather than fact — the year notes on the previous year question papers page, strategy advice, the commentary in the weekly digest — the byline carries a photograph as well.

We do not publish under "Team Samkalp", "Admin" or "Editorial Desk". If nobody is willing to put a name to a page, the page should not exist.

2. What we will use as a source, in order

  1. 1. The Commission's own documents: The examination notice, the Rules published in the Gazette, cut-off documents, result documents, official answer keys and press notes. Cited by document name, number and date, with a link.
  2. 2. Other primary official sources: Ministry and PIB releases, government reports, Parliament questions and answers, Supreme Court and High Court judgments, and official statistical publications.
  3. 3. Established press: For events where no primary document exists, attributed by publication and date.

What we will NOT use as a source at any level: another coaching institute's website, an aggregator or exam-news site, a YouTube video, a Telegram channel, a Quora answer, or a generative model's unverified output.

No examination fact is published from memory. This is the rule the whole policy rests on. If a writer cannot cite the document a rule comes from, the sentence does not go up. In production this shows on the page as a bracketed verification marker, and a page carrying one is not published until the marker is resolved. It is deliberately inconvenient.

3. Fact and opinion are separated on the page

A rule from the notice and a view about strategy are different kinds of statement, and a reader who cannot tell them apart will plan against the wrong one. So a factual claim carries its source, and an opinion is labelled as the judgement of a named person. The year-note table on our past papers page has two columns for exactly this reason, and the column headings say which is which.

4. Review before publication

Every page passes through three people before it goes live: the writer, a subject reviewer who checks that the content is right, and a fact checker who independently opens each cited document and confirms that it says what the page claims it says. The fact checker does not take the writer's word for a citation.

Pages carrying examination rules — eligibility, age, attempts, pattern, syllabus, cut-offs, calendar — additionally require the Content Owner's sign-off.

5. Update stamps, and what they mean

Every page in the UPSC section carries a "Last checked" date. It means what it says: on that date, a named person opened the cited source documents and confirmed the page against them. It is not the date the page was last edited, and it is not automatically refreshed when somebody fixes a typo.

ContentRe-checked Cadence
Eligibility, age, attempts, pattern, syllabus, calendarWithin 7 days of every new examination notification, and in any event every 6 months
Cut-offsWithin 7 days of the Commission publishing a new cut-off document
Batch dates, fees, eventsWeekly
Strategy and preparation guidanceEvery 12 months
Weekly digest issuesNot revised after publication, except by an appended dated correction

If a page's "Last checked" date is older than its cadence, that is our failure and you should treat the page with suspicion. Tell us and we will fix it.

6. Corrections

How to report one: Email info@samkalpias.in with the page and what is wrong. You do not need to be a student and you do not need to be polite about it.

What we do: We acknowledge within two working days. If the point is right, we correct the page and append a dated correction note at the foot of it recording what was wrong and when it was fixed. We do not correct silently. Anybody who read the earlier version is entitled to know it changed.

Material corrections — anything that could have caused a reader to make a wrong decision about eligibility, dates, fees or the examination — are additionally logged on a public corrections register, and where the error appeared in an emailed issue, a correction goes out to the same list. Typographical fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.

7. Use of artificial intelligence

We may use AI tools to assist with drafting, structuring and editing. We do not use them as a source of fact. Every factual claim on this site is verified by a named human being against a primary document before publication, and no page is published without a named human reviewer. Where a tool has assisted materially in producing a page, that is not concealed.

This is worth publishing because the honest answer is more credible than the implausible one. Every content operation now uses these tools; a site claiming otherwise invites the reader to wonder what else it is not saying.

8. Original work

We write our own material. We do not copy from other institutes, we do not spin published articles, and we do not republish scraped content. Where we quote, we quote briefly and attribute. Where we reproduce the Commission's text — as in our annotated syllabus — it is presented as the Commission's text and marked as such.

9. Commercial content is separated from editorial

Our course, test series and interview pages sell things and are written to. Our UPSC, preparation and resources pages exist to be useful whether or not you ever buy anything from us, and they are written to that standard.

Informational pages do link to our products, because that is how the site pays for itself. Those links are ours, they are obviously ours, and they are placed where the product genuinely answers the problem the page has just described — not in the middle of an explanation of the examination.

We accept no paid placement, no sponsored content, and no affiliate commission on any book, platform or product we recommend. Where we recommend a book, we recommend it because it is the right book, and we have no financial interest in whether you buy it.

10. Things we have decided not to publish

Stated because the omissions are as much a part of an editorial policy as the inclusions:

  • Predicted cut-offs: A guess presented in the visual language of data. We publish only the Commission's figures.
  • Leaked or unofficial answer keys: Including our own, in the hours after a paper.
  • Unverified selection claims: Ours or anybody's. See the verification protocol on the results page.
  • Fabricated urgency: No countdown timers, no invented seat scarcity, no "last 3 seats" unless there are literally three seats.
  • A daily current affairs article: Because we cannot sustain one and a stale daily page is a worse outcome than a weekly one that survives. The reasoning is on the current affairs page.
  • "Best academy" comparison content: Ranking ourselves against named competitors. We publish our own fees, faculty and programme detail and let you do the comparison.

11. Hold us to this

If a page has no byline, no source, a stale "Last checked" date, or a claim you cannot verify, that is a breach of this policy and we would like to know about it. Email: info@samkalpias.in.
